Paul Blanca

Paul Blanca – born Paul Vlaswinkel – (1958) is a Dutch photographer. Blanca became known in the early 1980′s with his violent and confrontational self-portraits. His work often deals with themes such as pain, sadness, fear, sexuality and agression, all highly emotional and violent themes that explore his inner demons. In contrast to that, he also created series such as Mother and Son in which he depicted himself with his mother, naked and in a tender embrace. Blanca often portrays himself, which makes his work very personal. Some of his artistic influences are Andres Serrano and Robert Mapplethorpe.
